McHenry Sportsman’s Club Newsletter (October 2008)

PRACTICE ROUND COSTS - The Club Board determined at the October meeting to keep round rates the same for November rather than increasing rates to offset increased target costs.

FINANCIAL STATUS - According to Mark Nelson, our Treasurer, the Club continues to be in sound financial shape.   Major expenses during October were $1,250 for the monthly lease and $500 for shells and white targets for the Turkey Shoot.   $3,000 was transferred from the General Account to the Trap Fund bringing the total in the Trap Fund to $6,000.

COMPONENTS ORDERS - Targets are scheduled for delivery on November 19th.   The last day to place components orders is Sunday, November 16th.   A 50% deposit will be required.

TRAP OPERATIONS - The Club threw 1,373 practice rounds in October which was 44% more than October 2007.   Target costs were $2,757 in October.

  • Trap 2 - Mark Nelson replaced the limit switches on trap 2 in a effort to solve the "hanging" problem.   He discovered that the insulation on one of the switch wires was stripped which was causing the switch to short out thus causing the trap to hang-up in the left position.   Trap 2 appears to be operating properly now.
  • Trap #3 - was adjusted and is now throwing consistent targets within ATA defined angles.
  • The Remington in Trap #1 has decided to start working again for no known reason.   Hopefully, it will work during the Turkey Shoot.
  • The pattern board is back in action.

PROJECTS - Project activity has slowed with the onset of winter, but things are still being done and need to be done.

  • Porch Gutter - AL Wagner installed a new gutter the full length of the porch.   He also replaced the brick molding around the door.
  • George Strode has been painting the porch window frames as time and weather allow.
  • Gene Higby donated a PA system that is now being used to call squads and for other information transfer.

CLUB PATCHES - the new 3½" club patches are in and may be purchased for $5 at the counter.

WINTER is coming. In December the operating hours will change to 11AM-4PM due to early darkness.

MEMBERSHIPS - for 2009 will cost the same as 2008.   See the Membership Letter posted on the bulletin board.   Membership sign-up starts December 1st.   We will mail an application to all 2008 members.

CLUB ELECTIONS - are scheduled for the first Saturday in December starting at 5:00PM at the Club House.   There are 5 officer positions and 5 Director positions to be filled.   Since MSC is a not-for-profit, member operated club participation by the members is critical to keeping the club healthy.   The Board meets monthly on the first Saturday of the month at 5:00PM.   Nominations may be entered on the chalk board.
