Decifoot Conversion:
Decifoot is a measurment which attempts to be as flexable as the metric system but uses the FOOT as its base unit.
A FOOT is used as a metric METER, it is divided using the decimal system.
You can relate to this by viewing the first division as a Decafoot (divides the foot into 10 equal parts).
The next division would be a centifoot (divides the foot into 100 equal parts).
After that, dividing a foot by the next power of 10 would give millifoot (divides a foot into 1000 equal parts).
The rub comes in converting from and to inches using this standard. There is no good way to do this.
Things to Consider:
A decifoot is a little larger than 3 centimeters. For most applications a decifoot may be considered to be 3 centimeters.
There are 12 inches to a foot. This being true, a decifoot is 1.2 inches long.
Conversely, one inch equals .833333 Decifoot (repeating number).
Fractions of inches are normally stated by dividing the previous division by 2.
Consider: 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8. 1/16 1/32, 1/64. 1/128, 1/256 etc.
Because a decifoot is 1.2 inches long, the resolution is in fifths of an inch.
1/5 of one inch equals 12.8/64 (a little less than 13/64)
We will use 12.8 and apply standard rounding.
